getting on to the net
 

I am a begginer in linux ,have installed ret hat enterprise and want to get onto the net first . I already have a connections. someone plz guide me through the process.

You should help us help you and give some more information. You can surely connect to internet but what kind of connection do you have? Broadband through adsl? Needs user and password to connect? Dial up using some soft modem?
If its a broadband connection you should try using command as root. Now provide the information that command needs and you are done.
If this not the information you are looking at then you should consider giving us more information.

i have redhat installed in my laptop with gnome. i have artheros chipset.
i m getting after writing the code
[root@localhost ~]# /sbin/modprobe ath5k
FATAL: Module ath5k not found.
[root@localhost ~]# /sbin/modprobe ath9k
FATAL: Module ath9k not found.
moreover after the code system-config-network
my device is not being shown
plz. guide me

What version of Red Hat? 32 bit or 64 bit?

Firstly a quick Google indicates this is not a "chipset" but a WLAN adapter?

Secondly, what model are you using?

I'm really not sure why you're trying to do this? What are ath5k and ath9k? Does your device not come with a set of drivers which you can install and thereafter reboot (in order to refresh kernel parameters if any)?

If Redhat EL 5:

ath5 and ath9 modules are included in kernel "build version 194"

= 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5

RH? EL? Or old RH9? what are you trying to do? Install drivers? For wired or wireless?
Have you tried lspci -vv?
