Getting my hp6310, PSus4, and verizon USB 727 modem to work step by step.
Well now that I have my external dial up modem working maybe some one can help me a little. Yes I am new and clueless. I am running Suse 11.0 which is my latest attempt at linux. I switch between Gnome and KDE 3.5. I can't decide which I like better.
Problems: 1) I cant't find drivers for my Verizon USB 727 modem,(the only thing I can get here), and would not know how to install it if I do find one. 2) I would like to get my HP952c up and going but it is on the Linksys PSUS4 print server wich I can't figure out. 3) My Officejet HP6310 all in one is a network printer and of course I have the same problem...Clueless. I did download the HPLIP which is currently residing in my Docs. folder. I would like to switch permantly to Linux but just getting it to be functional is a bit of a challenge. What is a PPD file, by the way? I have several Linux books but could not find "PPD" in any of them. I would appreciate any help. Thanks. |
if not plugged in plugg it in and now open a terminal and type lsusb if know out put you may have to assume root su then enter then pasword. or if you are using sudo then sudo lsusb.
and post it now type dmesg and post it. I belive this may be suported by linux. but I need to Know what ttyUSB0 com it is using when we find that out we will configure your dial up. ok. I prefer kde dial up kppp it works great. then if your real lazy like me down load puppy linux 4.12 and run the live cd click the connect to the internet icon and let it find it. other wise. when we find out what your system is loding it as like ttyUSB0 we will configur kppp to use that com channle. ok. |

The second command "dmesg" came back with about 12 pages of info. Is there a paticular section to look for? |
actually not. I believe the rate is much faster than that 3.1 Mbps.They advertise that should be penty fast dsl fast. the pppd or kppp program is actually used to make the handshake. it dials a number then it conects to a digital signal. this is still a point to point protocol ppp

Hmm, I scrolled down the long list until I saw the Novatel mentioned on USB3 and here is what it says:
