Are you connecting via usb or ethernet?

You probably have Gnome as a desktop environment. Usually there is a dialup tool. I forget what the Gnome frontend is called, but the kde version is called kppp. Try to fing that tool under your internet section of your menu. You should be able to set things up as easily as with Windows Dial-up networking (maybe easier). I am quite sure that your modem is recognized as usable under Linux. That chipset's been around a while.
