getting gnome to start

I just installed slackware 9.0 to my system(following the howto text file from slackware) and can login as root. I added a user using adduser. I ran xwmconfig to set gnome as my default gui and restarted system. My question is how do I get gnome to run? I only seem to be able to be in text mode. I am a complete linux newbie, so be easy :)
Thanks,
JamminJ

Can't remember how slackware works exactly, but if you want it to start in gnome automatically, you need to change the default runlevel to 5.

I think this is done by editing /etc/init.d can't remember exactly, the comments in the file say what to do.

Me neither could remember where to modify the file with something like *init*.

There is another substitute way to automaticly let you log on with graphic. It sounds stupid, but sometimes it is not a bad way.

Under RH (I don't know slackware) invoke Xconfigurator and setup again the Xwindows. After successfully setting up, the Xconfigurator will ask you whether you like to login grafically. Select it!!!!!. (Bare in mind you know how to config the X).

Why I still could not have X??????!!!!!
