getting autoconf for Mandrake 10.1
 

I've been trying to install some development programs in Mandrake 10.1 (I guess it's "community" ...it's the freely downloaded one). Usually there is a problem with a missing autoconf2.5. For example:

#urpmi kdevelop
Some package requested cannot be installed:
kdevelop-3.1.1-3mdk.i586 (due to unsatisfied autoconf2.5)
Continue? (Y/n)

So, I've tried through RPMDrake and the command line urpmi and I cannot find where or how to get autoconf2.5. I've added many RPM sites to the list and I still can't find it. I tried to download an RPM that I thought was the correct one and added its path to RPMDrake, but it wouldn't recognize it. You'd think it would be on the CDs, but it's not...

Has anybody successfully found this file and installed development programs that require it? If you have I'd love to find out out where/how.

I'm a big time newbie, so don't take it for granted that I'll know much.:D

I found this in my list of available packages on my Mandrake through menu/system/configuration/packaging/install software. But I must add that I set up easy urpmi on my system & it lists all available packages for my system, you should do this also & you will have easy access to anything you need, just in case you're wondering...easy urpmi when set up will keep a list from rpm repositories that you choose of everything available & makes it easy to install software with all dependencies so you don't have to go to rpm sites & download stuff individually to satisfy dependencies, you just pick the item you want & it will tell you what else it will install to satisfy dependencies & you just click OK & it's done. To do this go to this site & follow instructions to set up easy urpmi on your system, it is the simplest way to install packages on Mandrake, tip: if a particular site in your selection does not appear to work, go back to this page & select another site & go through the three steps again & it will tell you what to type in a console till you get all the lists downloaded, you do not have to start over from scratch, in other words...if you already did the ( plf & contrib ) for example & those lists were downloaded successfully just carry on with the one that didn't work till you get a site that downloads that list, it took me 6 hours on dial-up to set this up but it was worth it. You need to be on-line to set it up & when installing packages because most items will not be on your hard drive rather it will be at the repositories in your lists, all in all you will never have to search for dependencies again, they will automatically be installed with the item you want. http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/index.php?...&prefix=#third

Thanks for the reply. It's funny... I had added those repositories and even saved the appropriate RPM locally (in a directory where I specified RPMDrake to look for them) and it just refused to acknowledge that the RPM existed. I thought it was some kind of bug that others might be experiencing so I posted here. I tried again and suddenly it could find the RPM locally and at the sites... it's weird.

Anyway, I solved one problem, but now that I'm trying to install KDevelop it also wants to re-install A LOT of stuff that you would think is unrelated to an IDE. It seems others have experienced this too. Interesting.
