getting a 3G mobile broadband to work
hi everyone,
i have just recently installed linux mint 9 with the KDE desktop, i am very happy about it... the problem i have encountered is setting up my 3 Mobile broadband USB dongle, other linux distros just recognised it instantly, but i cannot seem to install it in this one, could someone help me at all, please in a simple as possible description as i am still really new to linux, its a huawei dongle many thanks pete |
Hello nasa_pete,
at first try the "dmesg" command to find out, if the device is recognized as a new USB-device at all. If your Hardware is not broken and the system is set up properly that should work. Maybe your distribution is missing the kernel-module for the dongle. I'd recommend to boot with another Linux-distribution (which recognizes the device) and look with "lsmod" which kernelmodules are loaded to support this device. Then, on your Linux-mint machine try to load this modules with "modprobe". If this does'nt work you're possibly missing a kernelmodule and you'll have to rebuild your kernel. Markus |
