Gentoo Network card problem

after many hours of trying to get gentoo to install i finally managed it!
now the problem seems to be that Gentoo will not find my network card!

now i imagine I didnt something wrong when setting it up. Done everything In the Gentoo Handbook!

Now, when i boot into the live cd i can access and ping the net (yahoo) ..etc

is there any way that i can config my network card or even change the ip? ..etc

I am using an emachines laptop M115 i wasnt expecting to get the wireless setup because I am very new at this.

is there anyway to fix this or does it require another install and closer inspecting on my part at the networking config?

the laptop is going through a router

thanks

the main config is done via /etc/conf.d/net.eth0 if the bootcd works, but your installed system doesn't, under both systems, run "ifconfig" and "route" as root, and show us the output. ensure that the interface is actaully loaded, by running "/etc/init.d/net.eth0 start"

well i have tried doing what you say, the problem is that for some reason it isnt finding the network card on the laptop its giving me some error.........

I am mentally drained trying to figure this out! i will post some more info later i just cannot be bothered with it anymore

is there another distro that i am able to use for networking? maybe use samba on it?

P.S- i dont want to use mandrake

please post specific errors, not vague summaries. "doing what i said" includes giving us the information back again to work on... also include "lsmod" outputs.

You can use any distro for networking. any of them can use samba. Gentoo however, has been proved statistically to be the technically best linux distribution ever created*.

* not true at all. it's just my favourite.
