Gentoo - Live DVD

Gentoo has released 11.0 Live DVD featuring kernel 2.6.37 and a lot of other apps.
Can I download this and try? For a long time , I wanted to try Gentoo but the compilation time weaned me away from it. Can I have a working environment if I download this ISO?

Yes, you can. At least, it will help you to get a better understanding of Linux.

Gentoo isn't for the impatient and the lazy people. If you are either of them or both and still want to try out something better than ubuntu I suggest you try ArchLinux.

Well not exactly lazy...But restricted by Internet speed so cant keep the connection on forever..If there is a headstart provided by the live DVD like say a precompiled kernel and major packages like Libreoffice , I can take it up from there

That live dvd is a great choice (well, I am downloading it now but the 10 was wonderful) as is almost any live cd/dvd/usb.

The term live cd tends to be a fully created, boot to cd and run gizmo. No batteries needed, no compiling needed.

The live dvd is a full linux that you can easily use to learn and play with. Sadly Gentoo didn't include an installer for the last live dvd but you use the live dvd for years.

There are some tricks to getting live media working with what is termed persistence. Gentoo may allow one to can be made to allow saving of session data.

Consider smaller distro's if downloading is an issue.
