gentoo install prob

i've installed gentoo on a machine once with no probs.

but i've got a new machine from a friend and he needs gentoo on it.

so i begin the install. i put in the livecd 2005.0, let it load the livecd.
start up sshd and go home.

first i start with the fdisk, no problems at all.
then i make the filesystems, still no problems.

then i want to "swapon" and it gives me this error:

Code:
livecd root # swapon /dev/hda2
swapon: /dev/hda2: Device or resource busy
and same goes for mounting hda 1 + 3

Code:
livecd root # mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/gentoo/boot/
mount: /dev/hda1 already mounted or /mnt/gentoo/boot/ busy
Code:
livecd root # mount /dev/hda3 /mnt/gentoo/
mount: /dev/hda3 already mounted or /mnt/gentoo/ busy
I have no clue why it gives this error.

I hope someone can help me.

duh... apparently I can't read.

Type "mount" with no arguements for me and see what prints out. That error implies the system has already mounted those devices...

well apparently the HDD was broke or something.

now i've almost got it al working.

when i boot it passes grub, but then when it loades the kernel it says:

Code:
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unkown-block(3,3)
i'm pretty sure the fstab file is correct.
i've emerged reiserfsprogs

so no clue for me again

hope someone can help!

are u using sata drives?
i remember a similar problem when i was installin 2004.3 back in the day with kernel 2.6.7 on the lived . i had to modprobe ide-disk to have my drive (sata) detected. partitions were hda#. if u build sata support into ur kernel (which u should have) they will be sda#. also incase of multiple drives check ur bios and make sure ur primary / secondary are the same primary / secondary u use in grub. sda may need to be sdb . etc
hope this helps
