gentoo install CD SATA no-likie?

Quick question - is there some way I can boot a Gentoo install liveCD and enable SATA support? I saw a lengthy description on the Gentoo website, but was hoping there was some easier way. This is 2004.3-r1.

You could probably start by using a non experimental release and also use the latest 2005.0?
