gentoo and mice

i`ve just installed gentoo on my laptop.
i want to configure the mouse, i have a usb scroll mouse. the gentoo homepage says to use the /dev/input/mice, but this link does not exist. the /dev/input folder is empty....

what to to???

I have used a couple different options successfully. With the 2.4.xx kernel I use /dev/psaux and for the 2.6.xx kernel I use /dev/misc/psaux.

You could try one of these and see where it gets you.

thanks for the reply.

just tried to use both /dev/psaux and /dev/misc/psaux.
running the 2.4.24 kernel on a compaq laptop, the touchpad is working with these two options, but not the mouse.
