General Tips.. how I love them
Yo, linux newbie here. I just got an old Gateway2000 with Intel Pentium Pro processor set up with debian linux, by way of knoppix. I don't know much more than how to log on, use the KDE, and update my packages. Mostly I'm looking to experiment, but I don't really know where to start. I just want to learn the most I can about Linux. Any general tips for newbies are really appreciated :)

Hi :)
Learn about linux... Let's see, you could take the tutorial over at linux.org (linux 101). Other things include just takin a piece of software (maybe a server? Something like Apache or a mail server?) and just getting it going. You can search for software at www.freshmeat.net Cool |
There's a really huge thread in this site that's all about tips and tricks...I don't have a link handy but I'm sure if you search you'll find it...its loaded with neat stuff.

The way I learned (still learning) is by using Linux on a day-to-day basis. When I started with Linux, I completely removed my windows install, and I haven't looked back. It's been a fun ride so far and I am fascinated by linux more and more each day.
Good luck and Have fun! |
