geforce fx5200 in suse 9.2 personal


Hi,

I am new to these forums. excuse my ignorance, but I am only 13 and learning about linux.

I installed 9.2 suse persoanl, but it did not install my video card (geforce fx 5200 pci)

I have downloaded the drivers, but dont know what to do with them ?

Any help appreciated.

There is a README available at nVidia's website for instructions on how to install in SuSE.
You essentially have to run in runlevel 3 (issue an init 3 command as root), then run the nVidia installation script. There may be a few minor other things to do under SuSE, but it's been so long since I updated a video driver I can't remember...

once the driver is installed, you should then switch to runlevel 5 (init 5 as root), and then login and use YAST2's SAX2 graphics configuration utility to set up your video system.

The drivers are proprietary, and so SuSE can't include them in their distro without some sort of negotiation with nVidia.
