GDebi Package installer always fails

GDebi Package installer always tells med that a file I want to install is corrupt, or I don't have the permission. I can't find out. I Have tried with many files, and I'm the only user of the computer. I Use Ubunto 8.10

Which deb file are you trying to install? Have you tried using the more "normal" synaptic package installer to do this? If you absolutely want to install a .deb file that you have downloaded from somewhere then you might try

Code:

sudo dpkg -i [name of deb file]

from a command line. If there's a problem then at least you should get more information about its nature that way.

Have you tried System/Administration/Synaptic_Package_Manager?
You can set up local repositories in Synaptic also.

BTW:
Synaptic tells me GDebi is installed....
Is this the Applications/Add_Remove link?
Because when I hit this link, this is what I see:

I never go though this avenue, I use synaptic where you have to input your super user password to use.

Ok. I go to Synaptic package manager. It tells me that there is a file named hl1030 which must be reinstalled.When I try to do so, Synaptic tells me that it can't find the map containing this file. - I'm a bit puzzled again.

I shall add: The only thing i can do is to "Close". Then Symantic disapirs. The next time I contact Symantic the same show goes on.And so on... At can't for example get Symantic to find other files to be managed.
