gcc? make? hm?

hi!

I'm quite down. I've tried to install either make or gcc and so on, but I dont really know how to do that. I downloaded glibc 2-3-5 and gcc 4-0-1 and make 3-80. But my suse 9.1 canot unpack the gcc-archive for some reason, i dont know why, It just hangs when I open the archive. Reloading it from the internet does change nothing.
At first I tried to install make, by unpacking it into /root/make/. I ran ./configure but it says that I dont have a C compiler installed in $PATH. I think thats right, because I dont have one. I thought I have to compile gcc using make or sth... I dont look through all those file and types
OK, so, what do I have exactly to do to get gcc and make running so that I can compile / link / create kde-apps that I downloaded as source-tg.bz2 eg KDevelop?
I dont know whta to do, I hope you can help me

Hello,MagicMaxi

Please see if this is any help to you goto YaST
you will need to use Root password

then click on Install and Remove software
then just type in the Search box gcc or make
there you will see a list of all the things you
need from here you should know what to do

but i will add this make sure to do a checksum
on all the items you download just don't go around
downloading & installing just anything

Good day

Hi!

I looked for gcc and make in YaST, but that did not really help

I now downloaded a lot, and finally I think I got make running, but gcc does not work. I get always osme error message like this:

Error: c compiler cannot create executables
int the config.log there is that sth in libc.so.6 is not found (glibc 2.3.4 ...)
So I downloaded the glibc-2.3.4.rpm and glibc-devel-2.3.4.rpm, but I cannot install this, because glibc-2.3.4.rpm needs glibx_post_upgrade. And that is my probem I cannot find that for download. Is my way right or shut I do sth completely different? do you have any tips for me?

Im using suse 9.1 personel
