gcc installation on suse 11.1
 
I am getting following error:
zypper> in gcc

I think it's trying to get the packages from a CD and you have no CD in the drive. If you want to get the packages via the internet you'll have to change the configuration (sources for packages) from the CD to some SuSe website that has the packages.

Gcc is a standard part of the installation in Suse products (OpenSuse included).

Open YaST and go into software management. YaST should show you all installed packages plus all available packages. Since gcc is part of the standard installation, YaST will want to first get software from installation media, then get updates online. If the installation media is not in the drive, you will get an error message: No media found.
