Installing gcc-4.1.2 : sudo apt-get install g++-4.1
.. Will provide /usr/bin/gcc-4.1 : g++-4.1
( Add 'hardy' to /etc/apt/sources.list ).

Building gcc : A build directory is required outside the 'gcc-4.1.2/' source.
Also required: gmp, mpfr unpacked inside the gcc-4.1.2/ folder.
Gmp and mpfr must be the same versions as your OS system versions.

A build example :
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-1-a-842567/#2
The configure line in the link is valid for 4.1.2 too. You don't want "java,objc".

Code tags are required : Write [/code] at error text end,
and [code] at text start. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?do=bbcode

And by the way : You will have to install bison and flex packages.

sir. i have an issue. i'm using the gcc which is from my folder in Documents to compile the code i have.
~/Documents/lin has a gcc which has a lib,inc,&bin. my code which is in Documents under the folder named diags will be taking the reference of the "lin" folder in Documents for compilation.

the problem is that for some headerfiles it is using from the /usr/include/..... which i don't want. i want my code to take the respective headers from my "lin/inc" folders how to resolve this issue sir. ????

~/Documents has the folders named lin,diags.
~/Documents/lin has 'inc','lib',& 'bin'. diags has all the makefiles,Cfiles... which take lin as the compiler. but it is also taking /usr/include/... for its compilation. i dont want it to take from there. what should i do.?

i'm using UBUNTU 10.10. Also, i did not understand about this difference between i686-pc-linux-gnu & i686-linux-gnu

http://sysinf0.klabs.be/usr/lib/gcc-....a?dist=;arch=
i was also downloading the packages from here for my "lin" is it correct to do so?

thank you for answering me patienly.
