Question Garbage data when communicating between ttyS0 and Hyperterm

I want to talk from my Linux machine to a Windows hyperterminal. I set up the hyperterminal with the following configuration:

Baud:2400
Data bits:8
Par:none
StopBits:1
FlowControl:none

then in Linux I typed:

> stty -F /dev/ttyS0 2400 -crtscts cs8 cread -cstopb -parenb

however, when I then type:

> echo "11" > /dev/ttyS0

but only garbage shows up on the hyperterminal. Any ideas?
