Game Software/Library Install Troubles

I installed Red Hat 7.1 last week and I'm beginning to get comfortable with a few of the most basic commands/tools available in linux. But, like many others, I'm having a bit of trouble with things that could only trouble a newbie. I heard about the game Frozen Bubble on one of the many linux forums I have visited in the last week and made an attempt to install it thinking it wouldn't be a big deal and I could learn how to install things in the process. Well this game requires a couple of special SDL components as well as something to get SDL and Perl working together. I have downloaded all the necessary files (mostly as red hat rpms) and I tried to install them, but Frozen Bubble still does not work. After I found the -U upgrade flag for the rpm tool I was able to get past the first error message that installing the SDL update caused (which took me more than an hour to figure out :( ) . But I don't know if there is a configure command or something like that that still needs to be run or how to install the little add-on packages (SDL_image, SDL_mixer) and the SDL-Perl thingy. I ran their respective rpms but got an error in there somewhere and I don't know how to fix it. The worst part is that I don't know how to check to see if I've done it correctly other than trying to run Frozen Bubble which may itself not be installed correctly. Frankly I don't know where to turn since neither the Frozen Bubble site nor the SDL site nor the SDL-Perl site have any kind of documentation related to installing the software, much less anything directed at us poor hapless newbies to the world of linux.

Just noticed this post...am installing the same software. You might try installing all the required packages from source instead of RPM (when I used RPM everything didn't work right, and with source you KNOW what's going on). What error messages are you getting when you attempt to run the program from console?
