GAIM Segfault, Kanotix 3 Lite

Hey everyone,

First off, I'm new to Linux entirely, this will be my 3rd day using Kanotix 3 Lite. I'm having a problem using GAIM. Yesterday I ran GAIM, set up my accounts for MSN, Yahoo, and AIM, then tried logging on, and it crashed. I re-opened it, it crashed right after startup. I've been googling and searching sourceforge for the past hour and I cant seem to find any solutions specific to Kanotix . I tried running GAIM through the shell, and it brought up this:

Gaim has segfaulted and attempted to dump a core file.
This is a bug in the software and has happened through
no fault of your own.

It is possible that this bug is already fixed in CVS.
If you can reproduce the crash, please notify the gaim
maintainers by reporting a bug at
-URL removed for lack of posts-

Please make sure to specify what you were doing at the time,
and post the backtrace from the core file. If you do not know
how to get the backtrace, please get instructions at
-URL removed for lack of posts- If you need further
assistance, please IM either RobFlynn or SeanEgn and
they can help you.
Aborted.

So i know its a segfault, but beyond that I'm clueless

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

Please keep in mind I'm a complete :newbie:

Thanks in advance

Well, I may not have solved the segfault problem, but I have found a way around it! I opened a shell and typed:

gaim -a, and it brought up my accounts list, thus openeing gaim, and then i just logged on to the accounts, so far so good!

If anyoen knows of a solution to the segfault problem I would still like to know ! :D thanks

Did you checked if there is a new version of gaim?
Maybe it's fixed in a newer version of gaim.
It's indeed a bug in gaim
