g4u floppy boot problem
 

Im currently trying to make an image of my linux box using g4u. I have downloaded the g4u floppy image and transferred to an empty floppy using cat and redirect. The problem is that when im trying to use the floppy to boot my pc there isn't anything to do except asking me to press a key to reboot.
Before it asked me to reboot, the screen only shows the message :
NetBSD/i386 ustarfs primary bootstrap
@@@@@@@@@@@

I have try to use the floppy into two different machines and results the same.
Does anyone know what is the problem? Im kind of lost.

Did you remember to unpack the downloaded file first? :)

Maybe you got a bad download and should try again.

If you downloaded the g4u-1.13.fs.zip file, unpack it to get g4u-1.13.fs
Write the image to disk. Under Unix, a simple "cat g4u-1.13.fs >/dev/fd0"

I dont know how to handle a .zip in linux, so actually i downloaded the uncompressed version of it. However, I think it's worth a try to download it again. thx Homey. I'll let you know further..

Now that's one google to be careful of. man unzip as it may get some goofy results. :)

I have downloaded the .zip version. The unzip command seems to worked well and yielding the same size as the uncompressed version. I transferred the latest one to the floppy, but then still it didnt work to boot my pc using it.
Does it have to do with the size of the file being unfitted with the size of the floppy?
The ls command shows that the g4u-1.13.fs size is 1474560, and all i know is that the 3.5" floppy size is 1440 KB.
As information, I have some problems before when trying to make a 1720 KB.
Any idea?

Well, I gave it a go with no problems. Maybe something odd with your floppy disks as it does load onto a normal 1.44 floppy. Try some other floppy or maybe even format it first just in case.

I have format it first couple of times actually, so well, yes, maybe there is something odd with my floppies or my floppy drive. I already have an image of my linux built with partimage, so I give up with g4u right now, maybe I will try it some other time. Thanks Homey.
