ftp server

i would like to set up an ftp server. i currently have an html server that i use to download things, but i have some very large files (about 4 gig) and i think that it would be better if i could download them via ftp. right now i just have an index page which lists all the files i have in a folder. i am using fedora core 1 and apache (httpd). what i would like to do is view the index page like i can now, but download the files via ftp. keep in mind that i dont know that much about linux, so dont assume i know anything. i can, however, open a terminal and edit with vi and gedit, become a sudo user, cd, mkdir, rmdir, change permissions (though it sometimes does not let me), and a couple other things, but beyond that i am useless.

vsftpd seems to be the most popular ftp daemon of choice. Check it out.
