ftp problem files not found....

hey all,
I have a linux box running Advanced server with an FTP site setup on it. When you access the server just over the network (using network neighborhood) you can access all the files, create new folders and files etc...
But when you ftp in from out of the office and upload a file/folder it shows as if its uploading to completion but when you refresh or when someone in the network looks for that file the file/folder is not there. anyone have any ideas?

I'd start from looking into the server log (/var/log/messages). There may be somthing written by the FTP server (not accepted data etc). If you go to that directory using shell (logged in on the server), are the files on their place, or there's nothing?
