ftp problem...

1. when I am using to get some files from other servers i tried to get the previously typed commands by pressing the up arrow key(like calling history of command at $command prompt), but it is not coming. How to create history of commands at ftp prompt. Is it possible?

2. I am working on RHEL4ES server. I am unable to telnet or ftp into my client pcs to get some files from it. It is giving the error as connection refused. I can login into my server thru clients. What must be the reason?

1. I'm not sure. My default ftp sessions allow pressing up & down arrows to get to previous commands. Maybe the server you are connecting to doesn't allow it?

2. Some sysadmins (or default setups) disable telnet and ftp for security reasons and they say things like "connection refused" if they don't allow remote connections.

What are 'client pcs'?
What 'clients' are you using to log in to the server?
