ftp login failed (UserAlias error)

hey guys,

Ive just set up my ProFTP server following the guidelines posted here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=79588

Now when i try to login, i get the following:

[root@XXX ~]# ftp xxx.xx.xxx.xx 1980
Connected to xxx.xx.xxx.xx.
220 you're at home
500 AUTH not understood
500 AUTH not understood
KERBEROS_V4 rejected as an authentication type
Name (xxx.xx.xxx.xx:root): userftp
331 Password required for userftp.
Password:
530 Login incorrect.
Login failed.
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp>

I know for a fact that the password is 100% correct. I decided to check my logs and found the following:

Ive done some searching but havent been able to come up with anything substantial on what i should do. any thoughts?

Hi Chris,

Accoding to the howto you've followed you should login using as username "sauron". It's clearly mentioned there:

Ok you have done proftpd configuration. Your server is on port 1980 (in this exemple) and the access parameters are
user : sauron
password : the one you've set for userftp
