ftp/http servers on smoothwall?

Is it possible to run ftp or http server on my router machine with Smoothwall installed and if it's possible, how safe would that be?

I'd also like to write some C programs for my router. Is it possible to install a c compiler (GCC or something like it) to Smoothwall since it doesn't come with any?

Thanx!
