FTP at RedHAT 9


I am using Redhat 9 and trying to ftp from my win98 with the help of CuteFTP 4.2.7 version but can't....it says...

USER ID not accepted...
Can't login.....Disconnecting.....

Well, you have to make sure that FTP is running on your box...then some version of ftp require that you put user names in files in your /etc directory in order to log in.

FTP is usually handled via xinetd on RH boxes.

Anyway, hope that's a start for you.

How fool I am....

Well....I am using vs-ftpd I think which is built in with redhat 9....

Before trying to FTP from other PC pn my LAN I have edited the following two file...

/etc/xinet.d/gssftp and /etc/xinet.d/tftp
and type disable=no.....But it was not working....

But after getting your post in..I have edited the two file again..
and type disable=yes

It is working....!!!!!!

Anyway thanks for your co-operation.....
