fsck in ext3??

I have SUSE 7.3 installed with the root partition ext3-formatted. Due to hardware problems, I have to reset the computer sometimes. However, when I boot Linux, fsck is executed in this partition, and takes 2 or 3 minutes to finish (like ext2). I thought the ext3 filesystem does'nt need to do this long-check, isn't it?

By the way, in the /etc/fstab file it appears this partition as ext3. Maybe I can tell the boot script this is a ext3 filesystem?

Thanks
