how can i fix this

marozsas 12-21-2007 10:00 AM

try to run fsck.vfat directly (instead of generic wrapper fsck) on the damaged filesystem.
Do not use the auto flag. It may need manual/interactive recovery.

lin_myworld 12-22-2007 05:30 PM

running fsck.vfat with -a attribute prints the same message

need help?????

I'm sorry, I meant "Do not use the -a flag".
Try to run "fsck.vfat /dev/sda2" without the "-a" flag. This will run it interactively, flagging the errors and asking you what to do next.
This will change the filesystem and you have no guaranties it will fix your filesystem.

I advise you to make a full backup of that partition using "dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/path/to/a/large/space/backup.sda2" or to tape.

As an alternative way, if this system has dual boot, try to boot in windows and let the windows tools to fix this partition. The backup advise still applies.

If you don't want fsck to be executed at bootup then edit /etc/fstab and change the last parameter on the vfat partitions to 0 (zero).
