From 8.3 to long filenames, using descript.ion

Hi

I have recovered some old files from a DOS computer, with follows the standard 8.3 naming format. On some directories I've got the typical descript.ion file, on other cases I've got files that contains lists of 8.3 names and their "long" filenames.

Are there any renaming utility that I can use to rename those 8.3 files? I'd like to get the 8.3 extension, and use the description and that extension to give a final name to those files.

Thanks in advance.

How about writing a script to parse through the descript.ion file and have it do the renames for you?

as above

for some a bulk rename might work
~PROG1 is "Program Files"

are they all cap
the old bash one liners has a good cap to lower and lower to cap
