From 2.4 to 2.6 kernel get ata-interrupt

I am trying too go from kernel 2.4.27-2-686 to 2.6 using synaptic packed manager. When I do this, I under booting get a ”ata-interrupt” error IRQ# 217 and nothing more happen. I have now been looking for help for 5 days cant find anything I can use/understand.

I have installed a standard Debian packed. I have only changes the fstab manually to get the USB key to function.

My hardware is:
Acer PC
Intel Celeron D 336 2.8GHz
Controller Serial ATA; IDE
Standard Harddisk
Grafik controller: SiS 661FX

Thanks in advance
Margit
