Fresh installed RedHat 9 does not recognize me

Hello-
I am a newbie to linux. I just installed Redhat 9 on a seperate hard drive. The install seemed to go smoothly, but when I log in I get this message:

"Could not look up internet address for che(name of my computer). This will prevent the GNOME from operation correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding che to the file etc/hosts."
And then it gives me the option to log in anyway.

So far it seems to be fully operational. But when I try to register with redhat to get updates. I get an error message. I have tried to add che the to etc/hosts file. I can get to /etc directory; and then I am stumped. Because hosts does not seem to be a file.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

RedHat 9 is very old and was discontinued many years ago; you should probably use a more recent distro, like Fedora Core, or something else.

I think you have to turn on DNS server and put a static ip address on your computer. This way you are able to use the internet. If this is what you mean?

I didn't know they discontinued Red Hat 9. Maybe i should start reading a little more on redhat.com. ;)
