frequency out of range
Hello
Can't boot up "frequency out of range" message appears on the screen after rebooting. after installing ubuntu 11.10 ( either stand alone basis or with windows xp) when i reboot - i get this message - "frequency out of range". i use a compaq 5500 monitor with resolution set as 1024*768and the pc has Athlon 64*2 Dual core 5000+ with 1 gb ram the display driver is GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 how to get rid of this message and i can boot to ubuntu? ( asking as i had to uninstall ubuntu for this problem) thanx |
That usually happens when the wrong resolution is set... could be a driver configuration issue, the driver itself, or a kernel setting which is invoked when the bootloader entry is selected.
You could try setting nomodeset in your kernel boot line; See here for more info on how to do that: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1613132 This should at least get you to a console so you can reinstall/change the graphics driver. It might also be fixed by simply adjusting the VGA parameter, which is used to change the resolution of the consoles. Ie; VGA=ask, VGA=none, VGA=792, etc. |
Not sure that old of a distro had nomodeset. Maybe.
I'd consider a boot time option to force the correct range. It may be possible to save it in ubuntu settings so that you don't need to edit loader. Not sure I remember any ubuntu 11. |
Just installed Linuxmint 13 cinnamon 32 bits in my pc
following is from the terminal Code:
mint@mint ~ $ sudo apt-get install nvidia-detect resolution is set at 1024*768 tia sr114 |
