freezing
often when i use yast on suse my computer just freezes...
anyway, i can go alt+f2 to go into that black screen place, i was wondering if maybe doing something there could unfreeze my computer? i was thinking maybe to stop X from that black screen and then restarting it with 'startx'? would this work? how can i terminate X, whats the command? and is there another way (better way) of unfreezing my computer? edit: problem is if i shut down X then i will lose my unsaved work.. so is there an alternative? if not how do i shut down X? |
is my question too confusing, or do u guyz just hate me? (j/k:study: )

when you are in virtual terminal 1 (the black screen) type
ps -A | more This will show you all the processes on your computer. find yast in the list and note the process ID then at the terminal prompt type kill 3454 replacing 3454 with the product ID of Yast -JACK |
If you are terminating a program use "kill -9 PID#".
A way to unfreeze a computer is to put it under some heat lamps. This should unfreeze the computer. |
