Freetype includes not found

Hi, I'm trying to install gtk+ but encounter an error concerning freetype after 'make'. I've found a solution on this page:
http://www.intevation.de/rt/webrt?se...isplay=History
which describes exact the same problem. But I have 2 questions about the solution:
1) It reads: 'Yes, on Debian[testing/unstable] you need to either modify the
#include statements in src/display/d.text.freetype/main.c'
But I searched for main.c and it appears in a completely different directory. Will mine be the same as referenced?

2) It also suggests: 'then run gmake53 & gmakelinks53 by hand in the
d.text.freetype source directory'
Now, debian doesn't seem to find a file named *gmake* nor when I ask eg man gmake53. And I suppose this directory would be the directory I found my main.c file in?

What is it you're trying to install? And could you please copy and paste the error message so we can see what you're talking about. Please include 5 or more lines before where it first says "error".

Edit - and what distribution are you using?

Distribution: debian (knoppix installed)

I think the
#include statements in src/display/d.text.freetype/main.c'
they talk about in that thread is specific to grass-5.3 http://grass.baylor.edu/grass53/
This is probably more relevent http://mail.gnome.org/archives/garno.../msg00082.html I think the important thing is, have you installed libxft-devel or whatever it's called on debian?

I have libxft2-devel installed. Installing llibxft-devel won't work since it says they conflict.
