Sounds like you need to setup your hard drive by using fdisk or cfdisk. When the cd boots does it give you any choices or does it go straight into the bash line?

fdisk /dev/hda {for PATA drives.}
fdisk /dev/sda {for SATA , scsi, and all usb drives}

I have never setup freespire but it sounds like it has a similar installer to Slackware. In the aspect of an all command line driven installer.
