FreeBSD vs Debian KFreeBSD

Im new to the world of Unix and Linux after spending a good 13years with Microsoft. But I wanted to start learning Computer Science Technology on my own so I choosed FreeBSD 6 to start learning since i stumbled over a comprehensive book called FreeBSD 6 Unleashed there after I will moved to choosing Debian Linux as my dedicated Software but now I see that Debian has a version of Freebsd called Debian kFreeBSD is this version the same as
FreeBsd 6.00. I know Freebsd has its version as in 9.1 but i want to follow the book. Thanks for any input.

Debian kFreeBSD is not the same as FreeBSD, it is a fully blown Debian Linux (in the current version 6.0) with the FreeBSD kernel, version numbers are not interchangeable.
If you want to learn FreeBSD I would highly recommend to stick with FreeBSD, since FreeBSD has a different userland than Debian.
