Question Free pen drive with read only autorun files

i got a free pen drive from some drug company and it has a powerpoint in it which automatically opens every time i plug it in. it doesn't show up in the pen drive folder but can be found when i "explore" it. i tried to change the properties to uncheck the read only box, but a message "an error occured when applying attributes to the file - access denied" comes up. how do i delete these files?

Where is it mounted? "mount" or "cat /etc/mtab"
Look at the long listing of the directory where it is mounted on (E.G.: ls -ld /media/usbdrive/ ). It is probably mounted as root, or the pendrive has a read-only tab.

Some of those pens are not writable because they are burned chips (not rewritable).

Thanks

thanks for your help, it sounds like there is nothing i can do, but apple computers block the powerpoint anyway, so half the time it's not a problem. i'll just have to deal with it

Use dd to write some zeros to the device, then mkfs a filesystem on it. If that doesn't work, you're probably out of luck.
