Formatting/extended/logical

I used windows 7 tool to shrink it. Now have 'new volume' sda3 of 40 gb.

Have live mepis cd, with gparted. How do I divide up sda3? I will need an extended partion. I do not see that on the menu of gparted

|Must the extended part. be the last part.?

Does it matter how I do it? eg should I make sda3 aay 5 gb for root and make new sda4 an extended with swap and home? ...also have seen something about another boot partition...??

or make sda3 extended with root and swap and sda4 for home?

need step by step instructions. Have clicked on many links including mepis manual but do not find this.

tHis will give you a better understanding. It's better to do using live-cd.
