Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Thanks Guys for all your help. Tredegar - i did originally think of doing this but wasnt sure on the whole formatting and reinstalling of ubuntu, plus mesh came with a facility to get the nvidia graphics working, but i decided to go ahead with the reinstall, it was actually a breeze and the ubuntu found the drivers i needed for nvidia so all is well. I think i have also managed to get my wireless netgear wg111v3 working too. So all is good and well.
I have a question which i know isnt about the original topic i started but i ask anyway.
I wanted to run tiny xp within ubuntu. what is the best program to do this? is it virtual box or is there a better one that you could recommend?
I have used virualbox quite a bit lately and found it great but I did have problems with the firewall but that is due to my in experience with it.
Pleased you got it working and found the re-install was painless.
I have no experience of virtual machines, it might be best to start another thread, or just go ahead and try virtualbox as jstephens84 suggested above.
