Foregrounding process that was backgrounded in a previous session

I remotely administer a server. If I start a process through ssh and background it, then log out and back in, it is no longer in the job list, so I cannot foreground it with fg. Is there a way to bring it back to the foreground, or somehow send input to it?

Hi, welcome to LQ!

And the simple answer is: no

One exception: you can send it a variety of signals via
the kill command ('man kill' for details).

Look at using 'screen' for your needs in the future.

Cheers,
Tink
