Forcing a window to quit in KDE

Although KDE runs fairly smoothly on my workstation, every now and again, a window lock up or the scroll bars will flick and freeze. Is there a way to force the window to quit? If I try closing it using conventional means (clicking the X), right clicking and selecting close, etc. it just stays the way it is.

Additionally, I've only had this happen twice but what do I do if KDE itself freezes? I was able to get to another consule and reboot the entire machine but is there a way to force KDE itself to quit and restart?

Thanks for any insight you may have!

you can kill an app in kde by pressing alt-ctrl-esc then the mouspointer will get the shape of an appkill icon then you can click on the window you want to kill.
