Fonts for Open Office

Is there any way to upgrade the font package used by Open Office? I am
using a HD install of Knoppix and whenever I open Word or Excel
documents from my Mac or from Windows users I'm really disappointed by
how they render in OO for Knoppix. I use OO whenever possible on the Windows side as well (I have Office but stay out unless absolutely necessary) and the fonts on that side are much better.

How does a Debian based distro like Knopp handle fonts - do all apps draw on one set of fonts (I think that's the case in OS X)?

Copy the windows fonts(or whaever ttf fonts) to your
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF (make sure all fonts names are lowercase)
then reboot.
From OO printer manager click the add fonts button or simply fonts (not sure of the translation as I'm using the Italian version), then choose import and the source directory that in our case will be /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.
Ciao

What I have

Thanks for your post!

Here are the directories I have in .../X11/fonts/:

100dpi
75dpi
PEX
Speedo
Type 1
cyrillic
encodings
fonts.cache-1
misc
util

Is one of these a different name for the directory I want?

Not that I'm aware of ... but then I haven't seen
PEX before ...

Cheers,
Tink

If not present, you can create your own /ttf directory.

ttf fonts

Okay, and then once I create that ttf directory, I just navigate OO to it to add fonts, or can I add these fonts to the main KDE menu and will OO then know to go get them (I guess what I'm asking is whether a Debian type system manages one central set of fonts or whether each application has its own collection).
