font problem?

I'm a newbie to linux, and I got stuck up with what I believe is a font encoding problem. I have SuSe 8.1 distribution bought in Germany and I live in eastern Europe. I was recently trying to do a very basic (my first) web site and I decided to use KWrite editor in order to learn the basic HTML coding. For my site I need Croatian letters (ISO-8895-2 encoding) so I put on the start the HTML code to display our special characters correctly on the browser. Nevertheless, when I entered some of these letters in my KWrite document simply by pressing them on the keyboard, Mozilla did not display them correctly but put ? or some funny signs instead. I did the same thing under Windows (to check whether I was using the right HTML code) using WordPad and it worked fine on both mozilla and internet explorer. Then I opened the document typed in WordPad under Linux (KWrite again) and instead of Croatian letters it had funny characters again. I tried to change encoding in Kwrite but I couldn't find the option so I changed it globally, in KDE Control Center. Nothing happended, it still looks funny. My keyboard has been set to Croatian under Linux by Sax and otherwise works fine.

Any ideas? Thanx for helping...

Make sure the encoding as specified by the meta tag matches your current locale (as that is presumably what KWrite is saving things as).

Best idea is to use all-UTF8 I think, but I dunno much about this
