Folder MIA

OK, so I was trying to install this program and I got as far as this command:

Quote:
sudo mkdir ~/.snippits
It's supposed to make a new folder called ".snippits" but when I look for the folder it's not there, and when I tried to create it again, it said that it already exists. Search turns up nothing. Whats wrong?

P.S.
At one point I got this:

Quote:
Bulk updating Gem source index for: http://gems.rubyforge.org
ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::GemNotFoundException)
Could not find raspell (> 0) in any repository
but I just ignored it and kept going.

Dot files (either file or folder which has a dot as the first character in the filename) are hidden files.

To see then in a listing in a console, use 'ls -a' (list all) to see the hidden files.

In your GUI filemanager, in the View menu, click on 'show hidden files' to see them.
