Fluxbox Help - Icons in Menu???

Hi. I was wondering if theres possible to have icons displayed in the fluxbox menu.... I written my menu file like this:

eksample:
[exec] (Firefox) {firefox} </usr/share/icons/firefox>

but this dont make icons show in my menu... Is there something I have to do first?

A other problem is the 'alt gr' button dont work in fluxbox, untill i change the settings i kcontroll. then the keybord works perfectly untill the end of the session.

Whats wrong???

Thanks

you should be able to add an icon to the specified menu entry like so:
Code:
[exec] (Firefox) {firefox} </path/to/icon.png>
I'm pretty sure that at least .xpm and/or .png image formats are supported.
you probably need one of the most recent versions of fluxbox i.e. the development version, which is quite stable, as the official "stable" version is REALLY old.

EDIT: everything you need to know about configuring fluxbox is available at the fluxbox site.

.xpm icons work with all semi-recent fluxbox setups, .png icons only work if it's compile with Imlib2 support, which most should have

yes it works fine for me (wow i missed fluxbox, thanks for giving me an excuse to install it again). here is the line from my ~/.fluxbox/menu
Code:
[exec] (firefox) {firefox} <~/firefox.xpm>
aha, just took another look at your posts, and it appears that this is another classic newbie case - you're pointing to a file called "/home/kim/Misc/Icon.xpm/firefox.xpm", which doesn't exist. it should point to "/home/kim/Misc/Icon.xpm". It seems this was the problem in your first post too, pointing to "/usr/share/icons/firefox", where it should have been "/usr/share/icons/firefox.png".

hope that solves your problem and that those weren't just typos.

Nope. Dosent Work... (2)

this is a cut and paste from the menu:

Code:
[exec] (Firefox) {firefox} <~/Misc/Icons/firefox.xpm>
the link to the icon is:

Code:
~/Misc/Icons/
the file name is firefox.xpm

see this link for a screenshot that includes the link to the firefox icon trough konqueror, the fluxbox menu, the menu conf file and my wonderful homemade theme...

http://img290.imageshack.us/my.php?i...trouble9xm.png

just to be shure I'm not fooling all of you and my self.... If the link is correct will I will I get a nice firefox icon next to where it says 'Firefox' in my menu???

Thanks for the reply

Well at least you've done a great job of proving your situation

Could you post the output of the following command, it'll let you and us know what you fluxbox was compiled to support which might shed some light on this. Have you tried using the png icon? It's along show but give it a go...

Code:
fluxbox -info

Hi. As I sead I am new to linux... I compiled FluxBox from source and so I did not bother checking the 'install' file. The only thing I did was to:

Code:
./configure
Code:
make
Quote:
su
Quote:
make install
so if i had to write somthing extra behind any of those commands, whell the I don't have it Installed. I'll try to copile it again...

Thanks

One more thing. I'm moving out of home, and so I might not have a internett connection for a while...

I can't show you my 'fluxbox -info' file because my own computer is packed down.

From your screenshot it looks like you've done everything right.

that's all you have to do to get the basic fluxbox up and running (configure, make, make install). That's what I did and it works perfectly well with .xpm images (see this screenshot).
Quote:

fluxbox -info is a command to execute at the shell, not a file.

the 'alt gr' button dont work in fluxbox
I'm assuming that "alt gr" is a key on a norwegian keyboard. what does it do? you might be able to configure it in ~/.fluxbox/keys (see here).

since you have mepis, you can use the synaptic program to install new software instead of compiling. This way you don't have to hunt down dependencies manually as synaptic does it all for you.

ok here's some stuff that might reveal something:[list=1][*]have you tried using the absolute path? i.e. "/home/kim/Misc/Icons/firefox.xpm" instead of "~/Misc/Icons/firefox.xpm"[*]can you edit other things about the menu? e.g. add an entry in there or delete one and see if it takes effect.[*]why is the file called "kim_menu"? unless you've changed your ~/.fluxbox/init to point somewhere else for the menu, and there's not much point in doing that, your menu should be ~/.fluxbox/menu.[*]have you tried any other icons or just that firefox one, because this thread suggests that some images just may not work, although it could possibly be because of the way the file was created. I created my .xpm image with the netpbm tools from a png. I would put up the actual file but I can't find a file host that supports .xpm images.[/list=1]

okay I think I'm just about out of possible solutions, hope one of these works.

...

The path is correct. I'll try to test some other images... kim menu is my menu, and yes i've changed the init file... I can change everything in the menu and se the change as soon as i save, and right click of course...

As for the 'alt gr' button is like the shift key for a 3. alternative on the keybord. Buttons like @,,$,,,{,[,],},, and some more. it's very importand. I think youre right dough couse while testing the 'alt gr' key fluxbox changed between programs I had running insted og writing my @ key. So it seems that fluxbox changes the key configuration at startup or something. I'll take a look in the fluxkeys....

Thanks all of you, so far.

I'll try to post again before I go to my new home again...

THANKS!!! I've been looking for a sollution for this problem for ages, I discovered I did had Imlib2 installed but without the png USE flag (gentoo)

O and for editing menus, there is this beautiful program created called fme (fluxbox menu editor) worked fine for me!

Cheers,
Pete
