I want to try to keep all my sowtware from rpm
Once of the most useful tools I've found for linux is checkinstall
. When you compile a program from source, you run ./configure and make as you normally would, but then you run checkinstall in place of make install. Checkinstall runs make install, but instead of installing the program, it creates a Slackware package, RPM or Debian package. You can then manage your compilied program as you would any other rpm.
