Fluxbox: fbsetbg -f doesn't create full screen pictures

I have been using Fluxbox for maybe about a year about now, and I never encountered this problem before. Before when I would use Fluxbox and wanted to change the wallpaper, I would just open ~/.fluxbox/init, find "session.screen0.rootCommand:", and type the fbsetbg command. Before when I would do this I was using Slackware, while now I am using Ubuntu 8.04, though I doubt there should be much of a difference between the two. Anyway, after inserting "fbsetbg -f /filenamepath/", saving the file, and restarting fluxbox, the picture would show up, but not fill up the full screen, like the -f (fullscreen) option should have.

Thanks for reading/responding.

Does fbsetbg -f work from a terminal the way you want after you have started fluxbox? Is "session.screen0.rootCommand" the last statement in your init? What does fbsetbg -i show?

fbsetbg works the same way in a terminal as it does in the init file.

"session.screen0.rootCommand" Is not the last statement in the init file. Should it be?

Code:
$ fbsetbg -i
display doesn't set the wallpaper properly. Transparency for fluxbox and apps like aterm and xchat won't work right with it. Consider installing feh, wmsetbg (from windowmaker) or Esetroot (from Eterm) and I'll use them instead
I "apt-get install feh"`d and then read the man page, and feh seems to be more related to viewing images then wallpapers.

Feh wouldnt work properly for me in Fluxbox

I think Esetroot is better, its part of Eterm.

Ive got an entry in my FB menu which automatically sees any pics in my backgrounds dir:

Code:
[wallpapers] (~/.fluxbox/backgrounds) {fbsetbg -u Esetroot -a}
BTW, the 'rootcommand' can be anywhere in the init, mines in the middle, although you should change it to:

Code:
session.screen0.rootCommand:   fbsetbg -l
which will write a line in ~/.fluxbox/lastwallpaper, and set the same background on every start up.

Thanks, the -a option worked.

I also found a GUI, gsetroot. For more information: http://gsetroot.sourceforge.net/ . It's interesting how Linux is becoming less Linuxy just to make it easier to use, thus more popular...

I've been encountering a few more problems with this.

gsetroot only works for that specific session, i.e. logging out and back in will make the wallpaper back to unfullscreen size.

I looked at adding that line to my menu, although I don't see the point. I tried it, and nothing really changed after reselecting my current wallpaper.

Should I just resize the wallpaper to my exact screen size? This isn't preferable, as I would like a long-term solution.
