flickering of screen while returning back to GUI mode from Text mode using Ctl+Alt+F7

hi

i m unable to return to GUI mode from text mode
using ctl+alt+F7

the screen starts to flicker
but when i press ctl+alt+F1 to F6
it switches between text mode smoothly

kindly let me know what to do

thanks


EDIT1 : currently working on UBUNTU
