- The simplest is to install Skype from Ubuntu Software Center, it will take care about repo and install it.
At default, microphone is muted, go to System->Preferences->Input . Remove mark - muted.
- Flashplayer, I prefer adobe flashplugin.
Go to System->Administration->Sofware Sources->mark restricted (proprietary software) and multiuniverse as well.
From terminal:
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install adobe-flashplugin
Restart Firefox.

Thanks Ihad tried to get Skype from the ubuntu software centre but it didn't seem to do it. Will check it to see. The sudo apt-get I tried before for flashplayer was a lot more complicated than what you have given so I will try that shortly.

Many thanks.

Check Software Sources, i.e. Go to System->Administration->Sofware Sources->mark restricted (proprietary software) and multiuniverse as well.
Then from Ubuntu Software Center find Skype->Install.

Otherwise, there is a good Ubuntu guide: http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Natty
Here is about Skype:
* Install pre-requisites:

Code:
sudo apt-get install libqt4-dbus libqt4-network libqt4-xml
* To get the most recent version, download and install the 32-bit version:

Code:
wget -O skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-beta-ubuntu-32
sudo dpkg -i skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb
sudo rm skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb
* In the past. some users have noted that they cannot get their microphone inputs to work with any version later than 2.1.0.47. They installed:

Code:
wget -O skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb http://download.skype.com/linux/skyp....47-1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb
sudo rm skype-ubuntu-current_i386.deb
or

Code:
wget -O skype-ubuntu-current_amd64.deb http://download.skype.com/linux/skyp...47-1_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i skype-ubuntu-current_amd64.deb
sudo rm skype-ubuntu-current_amd64.deb
